Pop Haydn is coming to Santa Monica March 7th and April 4th!

Pop Haydn in the 21st Century!  is a wonder-filled evening of fun, with good-time music, song, dance, comedy and magic.

Pop Haydn demonstrates his incredible Teleportation Device and he also pitches his Amazing Miracle Oil and his new Magnetized Water–a modern miracle for health and energy!

Pop appears as the great seer–the Diviner of Destiny. He will take time to answer audience questions about the future–about health, love, money and lost objects–with the aid of his magnetically-energized crystal ball.

This show features the sassy song and dance of our Louisiana Songbird  Bonnie Gordon, the fire magic of sultry sorcerer Sophie Evans, and the good-time music of Professor Dave Bourne and the Medicine Show Band.

Pop Haydn presents our intrepid electronaut Tesla Girl, who will bend the very force of gravity itself while immersed in a radio-magnetic field generated on stage by Pop Haydn‘s Tesla C-2000–a highly modified version of a Tesla Coil.

Pop Haydn in the 21st Century!  is a lot of fun and is geared toward an adult audience–but it’s still family-friendly.

9th Annual Soapy Smith Night Photos

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The 9th Annual Soapy Smith Night at the Magic Castle, held on July 8, 2012, was a great success! We had 420 attendees, and raised $2,520 for the Vernon Fund!

Thanks, everyone!

For nine years, the Magic Castle has celebrated the famous gunfight on the wharf at Skagway, Alaska on July 8, 1898, when the great Soapy Smith, the King of the Frontier Conmen, and the finest exponent of the Shell Game thet ever lived, was gunned down and his gang of 100 con men who had ruled the entry to the Gold Rush from its inception were arrested or scattered.

At the Magic Castle, we have a wonderful party each year to celebrate the memory of this clever bad man. We turn the place into a Gold Rush era saloon, with antique gambling tables for Chuck a Luck, Faro, Black Jack, and Roulette, along with all sorts of other games like the Shell Game, Three-Card Monte and Fast and Loose. There are prizes for the best dealer and most successful player. We have a costume contest as well. Everyone dresses up in 1890’s attire, and there are prizes for the most authentic, funniest, and sexiest costumes. We have a toast to Soapy’s ghost, and live Old Time music provided by Professor Dave Bourne and the Medicine Show Band.  Chef Anton, the two-time national trick shot champion at pool, presents his incredible demonstration of billiards wizardry. We have a live auction, presided over by professional auctioneer and wonderful magician/vaudevillian, Rob Zabrecky.

It is one of the most fun nights  of the year at the Magic Castle.

25,760 views of Medicine Show Band:

I had not checked in a long time, but just noticed that my video of Professor Dave Bourne and the Medicine Show Band had hit over 25, 760 views.

This is great!

Dave Bourne is one of the finest Old Time musicians around, and his band has incredible players. They appear on our Post-Modern Medicine Show, of course, as well as in our Radio-Medicine Show, our Old Time Internet Hour, and at every Soapy Smith Night at the Magic Castle in Hollywood.

Dave was the piano player at the Gem Saloon in HBO’s Deadwood, and created a lot of the music for that show. Dave started out playing piano in 1958 at the Calico Saloon at Knott’s Berry Farm.

He played bass for the Wagonmasters, a cowboy band that played ar0und the campfire at the Wagon Camp at Knott’s from 1955-1968.

You can find out more about Professor Dave Bourne and the Medicine Show Band, and purchase CDs at www.Saloonpiano.com.
