  1. I always wondered about Dai Vernon’s comment that H. H. was a “butcher” at card work, wondering how this could be true considering that H.H. made a living as “King of Cards” long before he began specializing in escapes.
    I’d have to guess that Houdini was adept at stage style card manipulation, but perhaps not so much at the close-up sleight of hand work that was Vernon’s passion.
    Any ideas on the subject, Pop?

  2. People say he was lousy magician, but what footage I have seen of his card work, he was very good. We also have David Bamberg’s account when he was a young man and he was impressed with his handling of cards.
