Pop Haydn in the 21st Century!

Pop Haydn in the 21st Century!

Pop Haydn is coming to Santa Monica March 7th and April 4th!

Pop Haydn in the 21st Century!  is a wonder-filled evening of fun, with good-time music, song, dance, comedy and magic.

Pop Haydn demonstrates his incredible Teleportation Device and he also pitches his Amazing Miracle Oil and his new Magnetized Water–a modern miracle for health and energy!

Pop appears as the great seer–the Diviner of Destiny. He will take time to answer audience questions about the future–about health, love, money and lost objects–with the aid of his magnetically-energized crystal ball.

This show features the sassy song and dance of our Louisiana Songbird  Bonnie Gordon, the fire magic of sultry sorcerer Sophie Evans, and the good-time music of Professor Dave Bourne and the Medicine Show Band.

Pop Haydn presents our intrepid electronaut Tesla Girl, who will bend the very force of gravity itself while immersed in a radio-magnetic field generated on stage by Pop Haydn‘s Tesla C-2000–a highly modified version of a Tesla Coil.

Pop Haydn in the 21st Century!  is a lot of fun and is geared toward an adult audience–but it’s still family-friendly.

Steampunks, time-travelers, dandies and other 19th Century expatriates are welcome–no weapons, please.

The show will be in Santa Monica, California at 8:00 pm in the 150 seat theater at Magicopolis on 4th Street.

There are only 150 seats, so order your tickets in advance so you won’t be disappointed.

Tickets are $29 online, and $34 at the door.

Pop Haydn and Sophie Evans at the World Steam Expo

Pop Haydn and Sophie Evans present a portion of the Pop Haydn Medicine Show at the World Steam Expo in Dearborn, Michigan on Memorial Day weekend. Sophie performed her sexy fire magic act, and Pop did his medicine pitch and demonstrated his Teleportation Device and even contacted the Spirit World, and then Sophie and Pop demonstrated “Tesla Girl,” a new piece featuring a Tesla Coil and an unusual phenomenon that seems to manipulate the forces of Gravity itself. The Law of Gravity isn’t broken, but we bend the heck out of it.

Nancy Magill helped run the technical aspects including the 120,000 volt Tesla Coil.

We were a part of the Midnight Carnival, getting to work with some of our favorite steampunk acts including Frenchy and the Punk, the Bawdy Boys, and the Shock and Awe Sideshow, along with beautiful burlesque vixen Haley Jane. Our dear friend Michael Shea emceed as “Doctor Midnight.”

Pop Haydn entertains at the Machine of Death Variety Show last night at the FAKE Gallery

Nancy Magill and I had a wonderful time last night at the FAKE Gallery on Melrose. It was a great event to celebrate the success of the Machine of Death (MoD).

There were lots of refreshments, magic, music by Lucciana Costa, games and actual operating steampunk contraptions, all in a wonderful environment, a trove of strange and interesting art and sculpture–what a fun time!

Video of the entire event here:

Machine of Death is an anthology of short stories edited by Ryan North, Matthew Bennardo, and David Malki !, inspired by this episode of Ryan’s Dinosaur Comics. From January 15, 2007, through April 30, 2007, Ryan, Matt, and David invited everybody in the world to submit short stories for the book, without fee or prejudice. Hundreds of writers from five continents took them up on the offer.

Ryan, Matt and David chose their favorites from the nearly 700 submissions, and invested personal funds to pay each contributor. The manuscript was shopped for several years to agents and publishers who liked it, but were unable to sell a book full of material by largely-unknown writers.

Faced with this rejection, the editors self-published the book and, on October 20, 2010, announced that October 26 — six days later — would be MOD-Day, in which they encouraged everybody to buy the book from Amazon at once in an attempt to become, for one day at least, Amazon’s #1 best-selling book.

On October 26, exactly that happened. The book shot up the charts and hit #1 in all categories, staying there for approximately 30 hours.

On October 28, the editors got wind that Glenn Beck, on his radio program, called out MOD as being part of a “liberal culture of death” — for beating his own book (which had apparently been released the same day) to #1 on Amazon. We continue to find this hilarious.

On November 2, 2010, the manuscript was placed online, in PDF form, licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution–Noncommercial–Share Alike 3.0 license. That means you can (and should!) read, copy, and distribute all the stories for free.

There is also an ongoing audiobook version, which is being released as a free podcast.

About the rumors in the press…

Whitehorse Ranch

Facing the 21st Century

There have been some nasty rumors and innuendoes in the media, and especially here on the world wide internet web, about me and about my sincerity in running for what has become the most important office in the land–the presidency of the United States.

I will not dissemble.

I am, in fact, developing a reality television series. That part is true.

It is the true story of 19th Century expatriates trying to get by in the 21st Century any way they can–the struggles of common hard-working people who are basically undocumented aliens in their own country. These are people who–by no fault of their own–were translated into a world 100 years in the future.

The True Story of these brave and resourceful transplants is available at Pop Haydn’s True Story. The working title is either “Desperate Townfolk” or “Househusbands of the California Desert” but that may change until we get a final working title.

In this little reality series about our village in the California desert there will be sex, violence, nudity, drama, and whatever else it takes to get ratings.

But this is a reality series meant to confront real issues and raise real questions.

We have serious and artistic goals to accomplish that are much more important than the quick infusion of cash this might supply our other projects.

And most importantly, it reflects nothing on my current campaign for the presidency of the United States.

My campaign is much more than just a publicity stunt for a reality television show!

I am surprised that the magazines and talk shows would suggest as much.

Surprised and disappointed!

Why, this is the type of yellow journalism that has soiled news gathering for so long now, and is beneath the contempt of right-thinking individuals who know what to believe when they see it.

Those who have tried to minimize and ridicule my candidacy as such are just desperate and unhappy people…people who may have something to fear from my entrance into the fray.

I don’t know why these media bullies need to pick on a small group of unfortunate maroons from another era who are just trying to get by in the 21st Century like anybody else, but let me just say that whether the show gets picked up or not, my campaign will continue just as seriously.

I will sit here puzzled and saddened by these charges, but undaunted.

My faithful dog Cash is beside me, and he seems to have a higher opinion of me than many of those whose opinions I value less.

Thank you for your attention, and for your continued support in this important cause.

World Steam Expo, Dearborn, Michigan — Pop Haydn demonstrates the Teleportation Device

My demonstration of my original creation, the Teleportation Device, before the assembled 19th Century ex-patriates at the World Steam Expo in June, 2011:

We met so many wonderful Steampunk people, and many of them also seem to have Time Traveling devices. This is something that would be of interest to some of our friends at Whitehorse Ranch, who aren’t completely happy here in the 21st Century.

We will continue to investigate and attempt to befriend these “steampunk” people.
